Letter 13: My New Year

Tim,

Time flies. It's hard to believe that it's the end of the year. My family doesn't celebrate the new year, so we're just going to enjoy the holiday and watch the crowded people and beautiful fireworks on TV. People gather at the Taipei 101 for the countdown and fireworks every year, but I'm not interested in those crowded places.

But still, happy new year!
Here's a kitten I drew.
Happy meow year!

Letter 11: Mexican Foooood

Tim,

First, I would like to answer the questions.
2.       What is the “liturgical calendar” of the Catholic Church?
The “liturgical calendar” is filled with “saint days”, “feast days”, “holy days of obligation” and “liturgical seasons” which are different to usual calendars.
3.      What is the “Advent season”, and how long does it last?
The “advent season” lasts for 3 weeks and it is for people to get into the Christmas season gradually.
7.      Where do the “natural” Christmas trees come from, and why will  they probably cost a little more this year?
The natural christmas trees in Arizona come from Washington and Oregon. It will be a little expensive this year because the farmer's didn't go so much trees 10 years ago.

1.      In Mexico, what is a “Chili”?  What is “chili” in the United States?
In Mexico, chili is pepper, but in the USA it's a dish.
2.      What is masa?  What is the difference between masa and corn meal?
Masa is a finer grined corn flour. Corn meal is a coarser one.
4.      What is a “tortilla press”, and why would it be common in Mexican homes?
It is a machine to make dough flat. A lot of the recipes contain flat tortillas, so it would be common in Mexican homes.

I have tried the enchilada before , when I visited Brazil. There was too much bean paste though,so I felt a little bit sick after eating it. Besides, it was a big enchilada. As I said before, my dad works in Brazil and he has been there for about 5 years. That's why I get to visit Brazil and try the enchilada.

Write for Rights

This week, the whole class and I wrote postcards to save the human right fighters all over the world. We read about their stories, and either wrote to support them or to ask for the government to set them free and give them their rights.

I wrote for five cases. There was two for housing rights, two for protecting the nature, and the other for women rights. To me, braveness is to stand up and fight even though the others hide. These people decided to stand for rights, and I really appreciate them for being so brave.

You can also see my posts about the postcards and other drawings on my Instagram here.
